The first Math Minds principle resonates with my current views about teaching and learning mathematics because I also believe that the teacher (or the math expert) is there as a guide for students/learners to help them notice what needs to be noticed and the connections between key ideas.
The second Math Minds principle resonates with my current views about teaching and learning mathematics because I strongly believe in a growth mindset and not a fixed mindset. Genius is not born and one can learn to develop better math skills.
The third Math Minds principle resonates with my current views about teaching and learning mathematics because I think it is important to provide enough time for students to grasp small pieces of learning material instead of teaching the whole idea and moving on. For example, breaking a lesson down into smaller pieces and gradually adding in new information.
The fourth Math Minds principle resonates with my current views about teaching and learning mathematics because I do believe that there are certain ways to keep students’ attention within lessons, such as bolding and highlighting important information and pointing out key concepts.
The fifth Math Minds principle resonates with my current views about teaching and learning mathematics because I believe we understand concepts better when we can connect them with prior knowledge.
